Factorise: 5x - 10y
Factorise fully: 3pq-12p (the p is squared)

5x - 10y = 5(x - 2y) ... done. Only the 5 can be divided out.

3pq-12p^2 ... are both p's squared or just the one (use the ^ to show exponents, e.g., p^2 means p squared)

3p(q - 4p) ... done, divide out the 3 and a p

5x-10y
you can only factor out a 5
5(x-2y)

3pq-12p^2
factor out the 3
3(pq-4p^2)

factor out a p
3p(q-4p)

5(x-2y)
3p(q-4p)
