Is it cloudy? Or do you have mountains to your west?

The sun doesn't set that early anywhere in Oregon yet. Far northeast would be the earliest (say near Enterprise). Right there, sunset is at 4:25 today. By mid-December, it will be closer to 4:00pm. You'd need to be farther north for a 3:30 sunset.

The Sun set in Portland at 4:46 p.m. this afternoon. It must be cloudy where you are (hey, you're in Oregon, so what else is new?!) so it appeared to get dark earlier than this. Sunset is officially when the upper edge of the Sun drops below the sea-level horizon. With the mountains in Oregon, thje Sun will appear to set a lot earlier than the official time.

Did you per chance happen to sit on your watch.

That can have the effect of resetting the time.

Sun sets at about 4.45pm
I think perhaps you had not adjusted for daylight saving.
