If I were there, I'd refute their understanding of Science on a general level and likely misunderstanding of radiocarbon dating. Since I'm not, I"d advise you to ignore them and find someone else to talk to.

What you quote is wrong.

Carbon 12 is the usual and stable form of carbon.
Carbon 14 is radioactive and is constantly being formed in the atmosphere. Living plants and animals can assimilate it into their tissue.

After death, no additional c14 is added, so the amount gradually falls as it decays to a stable form.
