Genetics: amp (s) what does the (s) stand for

I don't know what area you're dealing with ("genetics" is a large field) but if it's "Amp(s)" it could stand for "Ampicillin susceptible".

It just means that whatever bacteria(?) you're looking at do not have a gene to confer ampicillin resistance.
