Toluene in nail polish causes birth defects

-I have never understood this. When I was in the Navy toluene was a solvent that required a respirator and zero skin contact. It causes genetic damage to cells, progressive nervous system damage, and eventual renal failure. It is a dangerous chemical that has no business in womens cosmetic products,......
So i've been doing some research and I've read that the ingredient toluene in nail polish can cause birth defects such as cns dysfuntion in babies and missing limbs?! This is really scaring me because the clear coat i've been using on my nails SINCE i've been pregnant contains toluene, why would they put this is products if its so harmful?!
