What happens to an atom of sodium when it forms an ion

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-12-31] [Hit: ]
-A sodium ion loses a valence electron. This can happen in a multitude of ways. Because of this, it gets a positive charge and can easily form ionic bonds with negatively charged ions. But all that really happens is that it loses an electron.-Im a girl :) But youre welcome.......
you may use an ionic equation to answer this question.
help please.
