How do you know if an element is a metal or nonmetal with a periodic table

ok noob question. i skipped 3rd year and im in 4th year and im screwed =.=

all non-metals are on the right. there is an imaginary horizontal line from boron to astatine which marks the non metals. everthing on the left of those are metals.

the metals in the middle of the table are called transition metals and are the most important for gcse cos they are the examiners favourite! :(
