How do I go from grams to moles if I don't know what substance it is: im using the formila PV=nRT and n must be written in moles but they gave me it in grams (276g). It wants me to determine the substance
which I need to know for the molar mass conversion. How do I find the substance?

hey!! i guess you should write that question down....then i might b able to help you.... :)

We would need the rest of the question to help you.
In PV=nRT, n is ALWAYS in moles --- did you plug in the numbers and get 276 (if so, that's moles already)? Or are they giving you 276g in the question and want you to convert it? If they want you to convert it they MUST give you the formula, or it cannot be done.

If they want you to determine the substance, it probably is by way of calculating the molar mass. If you have been given P, V and T, you can calculate n. With n, you can calculate molar mass given the sample mass.
