If anyone could help me out, I'd be really grateful.

Ok so the question asks:

Perform the following mathematical operations and express your answers to the proper number of significant figures.

1.) 17/ 3.88 x 10^7

2.) (2.9 x 10^-5) x (8.1 x `0^2)

3.) (4.3 x 10^5)^3

4.) 5.40 x 10^18/769

I don't need just the answers, if you could also help me with how to do this it would be helpful :)
thank youu x

Okay, usually I go by 3 sig figs such as 3.88 x 10^7 and 5.40 x 10^18. If there are only two sig figs such as that in #2, than stick with 2 significant figures (lowest sig fig) as the answer. Whatever significant figures your teacher is looking for, stick to it.

1) Here, it would 4.38 * 10^-7, which is a pretty small number since the denominator is whopping huge

2) If you're multiplying, you would add the exponents and multiply the 2.9 and 8.1. In this case, 10^-5 + 10^2 would get you 10^-3, so your answer would be 23.49 * 10^-3, then rounding to 2 sig figs: 2.4 x 10^-2

3. Here, you would multiply these exponents if an exponent is outside the parenthesis. (4.3 x 4.3 x 4.3) x (10^5)(^3) = 79.5 x 10^15 --> 7.9 x 10^16

4. Here, see it this way: 5.40 x 10^18/ 7.69 x 10^2
now, just normally divide 5.4 by 7.69 and subtract 2 from the exponent 18 and leaves you with 10^16
Put them together and you have 0.702 * 10^16 or 7.0 x 10^15
