can somebody help me figure out this question?im a dummy for chemistry...darn-a)400.0mL of 0.......
Which of the following solutions contains the greatest number of ions?
a)400.0mL of 0.10M NaCI
b)300.0mL of 0.10M CaCI2
c)200.0mL of 0.10M FeCI3
d)800.0mL of 0.10M sucrose

can somebody help me figure out this question?

a)400.0mL of 0.10M NaCI = 0.4L x 0.1mol/L = 0.04 moles NaCl x 2 = 0.08
b)300.0mL of 0.10M CaCI2 = 0.3L x 0.1mol/L = 0.03 moles CaCl2 x 3 = 0.09
c)200.0mL of 0.10M FeCI3 = 0.2L x 0.1mol/L = 0.02 moles FeCl3 x 4 = 0.08
d)800.0mL of 0.10M sucrose = 0.8L x 0.1mol/L = 0.08 moles sucrose x 1 = 0.08 but no ions

The reason for multiplying by 2, 3, 4, 1 etc. is based on the number of ions produces. For NaCl it is 2; for CaCl2 it is 3 and for FeCl3 it is 4 (Fe, = 3 Cl).

So the CaCl2 solution (b) would have the greatest number of ions.
