What is sugar limestone made out of

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-12-04] [Hit: ]
They seem to be white creamy semi-translucent grains....Never seen sugar limestone before and im having a hard time describing it!if any geologists have experienced it before any help appreciated!......
I found some sugar limestone - caused by the contact thermal metamorphic effects....
It is very very friable making it difficult to tell what it is made out of?
The grains almost break to sand? Is it quartz or calcite im looking at? They seem to be white creamy semi-translucent grains....
Never seen sugar limestone before and im having a hard time describing it! :)
if any geologists have experienced it before any help appreciated!
Thank you!

Limestone is a sedimentary rock that consists largely of the minerals calcite and aragonite, which are different crystal forms of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). Many limestones are comprised of skeletal fragments of marine organisms such as coral or foraminifera.

Limestone may be crystalline, clastic, granular or massive, depending on the method of formation. Crystals of calcite, quartz, dolomite or barite may line small cavities in the rock.

Cool! Sounds like a pretty quartz-y limestone. Even though you already know it's sugar limestone, you could always try the vinegar test:

If it is called limestone, it is made of calcite. Use HCl to confirm. If the crystals are large enough to break, they should also exhibit rhombic cleavage. Is this a trick question?
