Can anyone help me with the difference between a close face tunnel boring machine ( TBM) and an open face one? I have been reading about it , but I don't know if I have fully understood it. Are the earth pressure balance and slurry pressure balance a close face TBM since they provide face support as well as lateral support with the shield?
