I enjoy problem solving and building things. What type of engineer could I be

.its a very strong need to know how and why things work.Anyway, I never considered engineering because as a kid I was always told that was for boys and why would I want to do that? Now Im a woman, and it still hasnt went away!......
I have always enjoyed understanding how things work and how things are built. For as long as I can remember I have always been this way. Model cars, club houses made from scrap wood, tree houses, card houses, go carts. I tried to build a roller coaster in my front yard much to my parents aggravation. I ripped my bathroom down to the studs, re-modeled it and re-wired it (yes, I had a permit). I'm always the person to put things together. I have the same curiosity that my son has and he's four years old. It's hard to explain...it's a very strong need to know how and why things work.

Anyway, I never considered engineering because as a kid I was always told that was for boys and why would I want to do that? Now I'm a woman, and it still hasn't went away! I am in college now, but I'm considering changing my major to engineering, but I do not know which one to choose.

I also have to think about the advanced math I'll need to take. Math wasn't hard for me, I just never really applied myself. A good chunk of it I've forgotten over the years.

Based on what I've explained, what would be a good choice for me?

The engineering anecdotes suggest you have the practical interest to carry you into engineering - however professional engineering is as much mental as practical, and many "professional" engineers work in an office 40hours/week, running software, and creating nothing more than excel/powerpoint, so I don't know what you'd make of that. From a more helpful point of view, you need to find out what is involved in engineering study, especially at university. You can do this by looking at university websites, and the course content of each type of engineering - notice the subject options, and the degree of specialisation, and how the degree marks are credited. What type of engineering are you interested in? If you were to buy an engineering book, what would it be about? This may be a guide as to what you should study. You can probably attend a university open day even before you apply. Then you will need to find out what an engineering job is like - this is harder, but again the internet, and careers fairs may help.
Good luck.
