When asked to find the amount of aluminum covering the a cylindrical can, is it referring to volume or area

youd have the space including the soda/air/etc, so youre looking for the surface area.surface area of a cylinder = 2*pi*r² + 2*pi*r*h-The actual aluminum takes up 3 dimensions, so it should technically be volume. If we were calculating the surface area of the aluminum covering a cylindrical can, it could be called area.......
Since volume is what is INSIDE the can and area is OUTSIDE I would go for area.

volume is how much space the object in question occupies. if you took the volume of the can, you'd have the space including the soda/air/etc, so you're looking for the surface area.

surface area of a cylinder = 2*pi*r² + 2*pi*r*h
