1. If one side of a rectangle is 14 inches long, and the perimeter of that rectangle is 36 inches, what is the area of the rectangle?

Draw a rectangle. Remember if you look at one, you will notice that two sides have the same length and the other two also share the same length.
If one side of the rectangle is 14 in, then the opposite must also be 14 in. That's 28 in. of the perimeter accounted for. The rest is in the other two sides, 36 in - 28 in = 8 in. So each of the other sides is 4 in.
One side of 14 in. represents the length, and one of the others being 4 in. represents the width of the rectangle.
So the area, A, of the rectangle is (length) x (width).
A = (14)(4) sqr inches
A = 56 sqr inches

If one game is randomly chosen, what is the probability that the team scored fewer than 50 points? (Final answer should be a fraction)

The probability is equal to the number of data that meet the condition divided by the total humber of data.
Count the number of scores that are less than 50 points, as the problem says, and divide that by the total number of scores.
