It can be proved by induction on n, computing D^n

base case: A=D
hypothesis, true for D^n-1, P^-1*D^n-1*P=A^n-1,, implies true for D^n, P^-1*D^n-1*D*P= A^n, by law of identity matrix multiplication, imples true for all n.
