so 2 and 3) by the answer to that which is (2 times 8 = 16 and 3 times 8 = 24).To check it, add both amounts up (16 and 24) and they should add up to the money amount (£40).The amount are 24,http://canadiansport.webs.......
For example how do you share £40 with a ratio of 2:3

Could you show workings please?

-
Basically your saying :

Divide £40 in the ratio 2:3

2 + 3 = 5

£40 / 5 = £8

2 * £8 = £16

3 * £8 = £24

So your answer is the £8.
But the rest is the working out.

Basically you add the ratio (both sides of the colon ) up (2 + 3 = 5) then you divide the money into the answer (£40 divide 5 = 8 ) then you times both the ratio (2:3, so 2 and 3) by the answer to that which is (2 times 8 = 16 and 3 times 8 = 24).
To check it, add both amounts up (16 and 24) and they should add up to the money amount (£40).

Hope I helped

Let 2x
and 3x be the 2 numbers

2x+3x=40
5x=40
x=8

2x
2(8)
=16

3x
3(8)
=24

The amount are 24, and 16

Add 2 + 3 together = 5

40 divided by 5 = 8

ANSWER = 8

-
a ration of 2 : 3 means that there are 2 + 3 total parts

2/5 and 3/5
2/5 * 40 = 16
3/5 * 40 = 24

16 : 24

-
a/b=2/3 =>b=3a/2
a+b=40
a+3a/2=40
2a+3a=80
a=16
b=40-16=24
