Which of the following functions is the result of translating f(x)=x^3 one unit right and one unit down

a constant that is grouped with the X INDIRECTLY shifts the graph in the x direction. It seems counter intuitive, but the (x-1) means that the graph is shifted to the right. This is a concept many people have trouble understanding intuitively. So depending on your level of interest, it might be better to just memorize it as a rule.......
g(x)=(x-1)^3-1

g(x)=(x+1)^3-1

g(x)=(x-1)^3+1

g(x)=(x+1)^3+1

the answer is:
g(x)=(x-1)^3-1

In ANY function, a constant that is not grouped with X DIRECTLY shifts the graph in the Y direction. So the -1 at the end of this function causes the graph to shift down.

If you want to understand why, keep reading.

The reason the constant that is grouped with X shifts it to the right (instead of to the left) is because the function is NOT defined explicitly to describe X. If you solved for X, you would end up seeing a +1 on the opposite side... thus showing that the value of x has been increased by 1. If this is still hard for you to understand (it is for most people)... then just try plugging in values to the function and seeing what effect it has on the graph.

Hope I helped a little
