An island has an area of 50km^2.
What would be its area on a map of scale 1 : 20 000?

-
scale is define for the length, not for the area. there for first u should convert the scale in to area scale,
for length = 1:20000
for area = 1: 20000 X 20000
= 1: 400000000

there fore 50 km^2 is represent by = 50/400000000 km^2
=1250 X 10^-10 km^2

-
50x20000 km^2
