-
ratio is simply any number of the form m:n

Any ratio of the form m:n can be put in the form 1 : k by dividing through by m.

For example, 3 : 15 on division by 3 equals 1 : 5,
2 : 7 on division by 2 equals 1 : 3.5
Ratios in the form 1 : k are called unitary.
