I am so confused! ( It would really mean a lot if you read it and helped me!) :(

Three sailors were stranded on an island. To make sure they would have enough to eat, the spent the day gathering bananas. They but the bananas in a large pile and dived the bananas equally among themselves. However, one of the sailors distracted the other two, so after they were asleep, one the sailors awoke and dived the pile of bananas into three equal shares. After that, he found one banana left over and fed it to a monkey. A second sailor awoke and divided the the remaining bananas into three equal shares. He too found that he had one banana left over and fed it to the monkey. He then his his share and went back to sleep. Lastly, the third sailor awoke and divided the remaining bananas into three equal shares. Again, one banana was left over, so he fed it to the fat monkey. When they all awoke the next morning none wanted to confess. When they did so, one banana was left over and they gave it to the happy monkey.
What was the min. # of bananas originally collected?

Wait, they were dividing bananas from their own share at night? I didn't really get it... And does he give them equal share from his bucked like 6/3=2 each, or gives more to one that has less until they have same amount?

Sry, then don't get it. I was half-way solving it if they were giving them to others....
If they devided then at "They but the bananas in a large pile and dived the bananas equally among themselves", why is there a group pile right now?

Sry, now I'm confused.... It sounds like someone divided 9/3 and got 3, than 2nd guy divided 9/3 and got 3+1 :/

My guess is 84. First all get 28. Now if those aren't selfish sailors as I assumed, one shares his part again, and gets 9+9+9+1.
Then another one now has 28+9=37, and he shares his part: 13+13+13+1.
