..Factor...x = 5,......
Please show/explain all work. Thank you!!! (:

-
4x^2-48x+137= -3
move everything over to one side
4x^2-48x+140=0
Divide by the common factor if there is one (in this case it's 4)
x^2-12x+35=0
Find two things that multiply to make 35 and add to make -12
Working this out it is -7 and -5
(x-7)(x-5)=0
To find the solutions find out what makes each term = 0
x-7=0 ---> x=7
x-5=0 ---> x=5
The solutions to the equation are x=5, and x=7

-
4x^2-48x+137= -3
4x^2-48x+140 = 0

4(x^2 - 12x + 35) = 0

4(x-5)(x-7) = 0

Either (x-5) = 0 or (x-7) = 0

Therefore x = 5 or x = 7

Hi,

4x² - 48x + 137 = -3

4x² - 48x + 140 = 0

4(x² - 12x + 35) = 0

4(x - 7)(x - 5) = 0

x = 7 or x = 5 <==ANSWER

I hope that helps!! :-)

Add 3 to both sides
4x^2-48x+140=0
Divide both sides by 4...
X^2 -12x + 35 = 0
Factor...
(X-7)(x-5)=0
X=5 or x=7

-
4x^2 - 48x + 137 = -3

4x^2 - 48x + 140 = 0

4(x^2 - 12x + 35) = 0

x^2 - 12x + 35 = 0

(x - 5)(x - 7) = 0

x = 5, 7
