I have a question regarding the title of "M.D."

Okay so what degree does an "M.D." exactly have ?
I'm writing a play and my character's name is Dr.Lopez, M.D. but in the character's biography I need to state their degree. Can anyone help me please ?

An M.D. has a Medical Doctorate degree.

MD stands for medical doctor. It can be one of many degrees.
