Estimations in Physics..

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-04-26] [Hit: ]
how do you tackle these questions?? and the methods to solve these questions should be easy cause they only carry 1 mark each..........
I am doing AS level physics and there are a few questions that require us to give an estimate of a certain things....and some of them i coudnt do and need your help with that.

1) estimate of diametre of an alpha particle?

2) estimate of mass of an atom?

3) estimate of young modulus of a metal

4) estimate of diametre of a typical atomic nucleus?

5) estimate of wavelenght of red light?

6) density of air at atmospheric pressure?

how do you tackle these questions?? and the methods to solve these questions should be easy cause they only carry 1 mark each....please give me an answer, even if u know only 1 of these.
or atleast leave a comment of how u think they can be done! thanks in advance..

You are meant to know these typical values, not work them out. It's the 'currency' of physics. If someone asks you roughly how much does a coffee in a cafe cost, you know (I expect!). These are basic values we deal with in physics and you should have a rough idea of their sizes.

You only need give values to the nearest power of 10. But make sure you give units.

1) 10^-15m (same as a typica;l nucleus)
2) Say 100 nucleons - gives 10^-25kg (know mass of 1 proton and neutron)
3) Hard one. 100GPa
4) Same as 1)
5) 700nm (blue is 400nm)
6) 1.2kg/m^3
