10 POINTS, if the earth is moving at 3000 km an hour ...

-No, it is not gravity that keeps the ball moving with the Earth. The ball is moving with the Earth before you throw it, so it is going 3000 km/hr, too.Next time youre in a jet airliner,......
and I throw a ball in the air, what force keeps the ball in front of me.

See if the earth is traveling that quickly, and I threw an object in the air, by the time the object comes back I'll be in a new position, and that object will fal behind me.

Clearly on earth that does not happen.

is gravity what keeps the ball moving in line with the earth?

Please let me know if you don't understand what I am trying to ask.

No, it is not gravity that keeps the ball moving with the Earth. The ball is moving with the Earth before you throw it, so it is going 3000 km/hr, too.

Next time you're in a jet airliner, drop one of your peanuts on the floor (if you can spare one). It drops straight down, and does not go shooting back to the rear of the plane, even though the plane is going 600 miles per hour. That's because the peanut is going 600 miles per hour too, before you drop it.

No, this question isn't asinine. It's the kind of question that people asked when it was first suggested that the Earth might be moving. If you don't ask, you won't learn. Ask away.
