096.16 + 74) = 1,172.16 metres.......
In this section assume the temperature is 20 degrees C unless directed otherwise.
A submarine 74m deep emits a sonar (sound) wave. The wave reflects from the bottom and returns to the submarine 1.48s after it was emitted.

How deep is the ocean at that point?

-
Sound speed in water roughly 1,484m/sec. Depends who you believe.
1/2 the time taken is for the sound to reach the bottom, the rest to return.
(1.48/2) = 0.74 sec.
Distance below sub = (1,484 x 0.74) = 1,098.16 metres.
Depth = (1,096.16 + 74) = 1,172.16 metres.
