Far From It!!

I've just completed a Project, for College, on America's latest ambition - The Space Elevator.
It really is what it says on the can. They are planning on creating an Elevator that will take both Humans and Space Craft into Space, at a much cheaper cost. Space Craft will then be lifted into space, from where they can then propel into Space, therefore utilizing less Fuel and creating less pollution.
How is it going to work?
- You may of heard of a fiber called Carbon Nanotubes. They are very thing pieces of material, finer than a human hair, which have extraordinary strenghts. The plan is to create a docked station in the sea, like an oil rig, and create a link into space. Abit like Swing ball! The orbit of the Station in Space would be Geostationary so it wouldn't at all be affected.

Why not check out these links if you're interested in reading up about the up and coming project!

And Don't Forget -- Virgin Galactic are also a Contender in Space Travel and Tourism!! :)

Yes. They are giving up. That's why they still maintain an unmanned launch capability, and are designing a new manned launch system. That's also why they will be relying upon Soyuz and SpaceX-based solutions in the interim, too... because they're giving up on manned space exploration. You can tell that they're giving up because they're continuing to send people into space.

Well, ..., no the USA is not giving up on space travel. The shuttle fleet is technologically speaking old. It's lived out it's life. We got caught in the lurch because Clinton canceled the replacement for the shuttle and GWB couldn't use to construct an oil pipeline from Titan to Earth. Seriously, it needs replacing and we have nothing to replace it with. But the US is far from being done with space exploration.

No. They are going to give it one more shot with Atlantis in July!
