When we first went to the Moon, how many people were actually on the space shuttle

The Shuttle was NOT able to leave Earth orbit to go out towards the Moon.-The space shuttle is cool, but it doesnt get you as far as the moon.It only takes you to EARTH ORBIT, you are still attached to the Earth. The main vehicle (the mothership,......

On Apollo flights, the crew was three. Two of which were able to take the LM down to the Moon's surface.

The first Space Shuttle flight took place in April of *1981*. Nine years AFTER the last manned Lunar flight.

The space shuttle is cool, but it doesn't get you as far as the moon. It only takes you to EARTH ORBIT, you are still attached to the Earth.

The main vehicle (the "mothership", if you will) that carried astronauts to the moon is called the Saturn V rocket, pronounced "Saturn five". There were three human occupants of this vehicle on each use. For the first trip to the moon, the astronauts were Michael Collins, Neil Armstrong, and Buzz Aldrin.

Only a small capsule of the Saturn V rocket made it to the moon, and that was the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM). It only carried Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. Michael Collins had to remain in the vehicle orbiting the moon, the command and service module (CSM). When the LEM re-launched, it joined the CSM, and both vehicles returned to Earth together.

Simply put, it took a HUGE rocket to get to the moon and only a small rocket to return. It is much more difficult to lift an object off of Earth than the moon, and all future fuel consumption must be planned for in advance. Fuel is needed to carry all of the fuel you are going to burn.

The space shuttle never went to the Moon. It was restricted to low earth orbit, no higher. It could carry up to seven astronauts at once.
The Apollo command capsule carried 3 astronauts, and the lunar lander or LEM carried two.

None. The space shuttle was still a decade in the future when we first went to the Moon.
