I've been challenging Atheists in the Religion & Spirituality catagory if they can answer this question you are asking, I can you tell that none of them know.
I am a Christian who believes in an eternal God. As far as known understanding goes for us on earth nothing comes from nothing. This violates logic. What is logic?
Logic is based on our perception of existence. When we open our eyes and experience anything, anything at all it is proof that something had existed for all eternity. This seems like an impossibility according to logic. But what if our universe is a construct of a bigger reality where more rules apply than our understanding?
I believe there is a super existence, that transcends our understanding. This super existenece is God.
** In response to godless: the fact that matter and energy are zero sum (energy conserved means nothing. What is left is "software" or direction. An idea or thought is software, the universe is hardware. To direct something requires a will. A mindless universe does not exist or could not. The fact that our pattern of being, our conscienceness exists, this dictates that a directive has been made intentionally to create a pattern that has already existed

Well i'm not sure what i believe myself. But the way i look at it I think the big bang theory is the most plausable theory, but the fact is for the big bang to happen there must of been something that has always been in existence. A greater force? God? The Old Universe? Who knows but something has always been in exitence.
