What is next to the moon every night, is it Venus

Jupiter is almost as bright as Venus, so it is easily mistaken.Side by side though Venus has a bigger brighter disc because of its proximity to Earth.-Venus is closer to the Sun than us, so is only visible near dusk and dawn. You are probably seeing Jupiter.......
I'm in NY and if I look out my window to the east, for the past 4 or so days, I see either a star or planet next to the moon that I've never before seen. What is it? Does anyone know if there's an alignment for this month? It's literally aligned perfectly to the moon on it's left side.

Venus being close to the sun can only be seen at dawn or dusk.
You are probably looking at Jupiter, and it is more the case of the Moon aligning with it.
