What would it be like to be at ground zero when a major asteroid strikes? What would you see/experience

)This would instantly flatten trees, buildings, and could even probably push or entirely disintegrate small hills of rock or dirt. Not only would this cause the surrounding area to quake violently, but the sheer loudness of the impact would be heard over a hundred miles away from ground zero. The sound would be booming and thundering -- Like putting your ear into the exhaust pipe of an accelerating monster truck.......
The first thing you'd witness is an ultra bright light coming from the general direction of the asteroid. This would probably blind you to look at. The light would pierce straight through clouds. The heat from the light alone would probably make it feel like an intense heat wave, regardless of the season. Since it would be going from space and into our atmosphere, the friction would cause it to burst into blazing, white-hot heat the instant it reached the outer atmosphere, and continue to get hotter and even brighter during it's descent.

Shortly after impact, there would be a catastrophic shock wave -- within a 20 to 50-mile radius -- that destroys all decently-sized structures in its path, and throws smaller things straight into the sky. (Note, you'd SEE the explosion before actually hearing it.) This would instantly flatten trees, buildings, and could even probably push or entirely disintegrate small hills of rock or dirt. Not only would this cause the surrounding area to quake violently, but the sheer loudness of the impact would be heard over a hundred miles away from ground zero. The sound would be booming and thundering -- Like putting your ear into the exhaust pipe of an accelerating monster truck.

There would be a brief 10 or so seconds of general silence after the shock wave, but after that, there'd be a huge wave of white-hot fire and debris that would cover everything within a 75 to 150-mile radius. (The only way to survive that would be to dig a deep bunker, line it with insulation and heat-blocking materials, and to cover it with mass amounts of dirt). The fiery debris and aftermath would burn for days, maybe weeks or even months, depending on the damage, but about 10 to 30 minutes after the impact, everything around the crater would [most likely] be fogged up with extremely caustic poisonous fumes and ash. These fumes would permeate through the earth and spread out to over a 400 mile radius, and even more, depending on the size of the asteroid or the wind blowing the radiation. This could also trigger extreme weather effects such as acid rain. Other things could happen depending on the size, material makeup, and origin of the asteroid, such as deep-earth punctures that could result in mass-magma flow, but that's all up to you.
