or the lunar surface, they could. Photographically, they set their cameras to expose for the brighter lunar surface. Which is something that photographers have been doing for over a century now, by using the sunny 16 rule.......
Nyx say: Long as they weren't looking towards the sun, or the lunar surface, they could.

Bill say: Sure they can. Where ever did you get the idea they could not see the Stars??
Pictures taken of them do not show stars because it is DAYLIGHT.
-
say: This is explained in courses on photography just after "Keep the camera still, stupid." Also, it's a movie. Have you ever watched Mythbusters, specially the earlier episodes when they did something other than guns and explosions? Did Yeager say how many stars he could see? All of them? A few brighter ones?

In reality, some stars are visible in photos taken on the Moon, it depends where the camera was pointed and the exposure time and aperture chosen by the photographer.

D g say: Yes as the other person said.. The light from stars is low making them not appear in a photograph.

The naked eye can pick up fainter objects because of the long exposure of the eye
-
quantumclaustrophobe say: Actually, they *can* see stars. But, photos of the men on the moon are set for bright daylight - and, stars are very dim - so, they don't show up in the photos...

at about 3:30, he briefly touches on what a photo from the moon would need to look like to have captured images of stars... The video is kinda interesting and funny.

nasty1 say: Simple, no man ever walked on the moon!
-
mike1942-f say: The astronauts on the moon can see stars and photograph them as has been stated for decades, the stars don't show up in photographs of people and landscape because the camera settings for the very bright objects make the stars too dim on the film to expose.
