This is the essence of sexual reproduction, while mitosis is for cell reproduction only,.-meiosis is division of sex cells,......
I need some comparisons of them . Im Stuck with this homework . :( HELP!

Mitosis and meiosis both involve cell division.
In both processes, chromosomes are duplicated before division.
In mitosis, two daughter cells are produced that have the same number and kind of chromosomes as the mother cell. In other words, the mother cell clones itself.
In meiosis, which only happens in sexual reproduction, the chromosomes are shuffled and the genes are also shuffled so that in the end, 4 gametes (eggs or sperm cells) are formed and each only has half of the genetic material of that parent.
The purpose of mitosis is cell division so that each new cell has the same chromosome number as the original cell.
The purpose of meiosis is cell division so that each new cell has only half of the normal number of chromosomes as the original cell, so that when it combines with the opposite gamete, the new organism will have the normal number of chromosomes, but half come from the male parent and half from the female parent. This is the essence of sexual reproduction, while mitosis is for cell reproduction only,.
