Why is evolution taught in public schools?
Yet the teachings of Jesus and creationism is not?
-------------------------------------------------------

answers:
Ronald 7 say: Both actually are
It is up to the individual to make their own minds up actually
-
Elaine M say: Separation of church and state.
Science is not 'creationism', it's based on facts.
-
Vincent G say: Atheists are so arrogant that they feel the need to force their beliefs on our children. Hypocrites!
-
Donut Tim say: Improvements in the education system.
-
? say: Evolution was proven in 2005, in Federal Court, in Dover, PA to be a valid, well supported by observation and prediction, science. Science, btw, makes no comment as to the existence or non-existence of God. it is a Creationist Lie that science is anti-God. Science is neutral, which is required by the Constitution of the United States. Teaching Jesus or Creationism is not allowed because it takes a position, unlike science, on the existance of God.
-
oldprof say: True Americans believe in the Constitution. And it's very clear, there shall be no national religion according to our Constitution. In fact there shall be a separation of church and State, where State here means those public schools.

If you want religious teaching in public schools then I suggest you go to Iran or Iraq. They spend a lot of time teaching religion in their schools.
-
GodsLOL say: because schools teach facts, not myths and fables
-
say: Godlessness is increasing.....
-
choko_canyon say: Jesus and creationism are beliefs without a foundation of proof. Evolution is a science with sufficient proof to establish it as fact. Fairly simple idea, really.
-
Dze say: the elite wanted an ideology taught that benefited their vision .. so they chose what curriculum to brainwash people with .. you are a monkey and your rulers are more evolved than you therefore qualified to rule you .. and everything is a 'natural progression' just ignore the fact that your rulers are hosing you ..
-
Riley say: Evolution is a biological fact that ties all of biology together in a unifying theory.

Jesus never existed and creationism is 100% fictional nonsense.

That's probably why.
-
JASON say: Schools are there to teach facts.
-
say: One is a fact, one is a lie.
-
busterwasmycat say: Because facts are, and myths are not facts. You can argue that teaching any scientific theories as "fact" is a problem, and I would agree, but to pretend that there is equivalence to a story written by people who only just invented writing and are the stories they had been telling for untold generations, with the interpretation of a vast amount of evidence, well, that is ludicrous. There is no equivalence.

One is "I have no idea so I imagine this for lack of a better explanation" and the other is "I have lots of reasons to think this, and maybe it is wrong but it won't be far wrong because it fits reality in so many different ways".

And in the US, we do have that prohibition against using public or government programs to promote your religious beliefs. You do accept that the genesis tale in the bible is a religious belief when you accept it as truth, right? You only accept it as truth for one reason: it is the word of a god.
-
John P say: I am British, so I do not know your system. But I might remark that Christianity is one of many religions in use in the USA (I assume that you are in the USA) and that it might seem unfair to promote the interests of one religion in public schools, whereas a scientific theory generally accepted across the world should be made known to all in the interests of banishing ignorance.

If Christian parents want to bring up their children in the knowledge of their religion, then they should do so within their Christian communities.

I remind you that the American constitution has a clause about "no reference to religion".
-
save us say: Because the purpose of the public education system is to teach what is verifiably true and prepare students for higher education. Teaching creationism would only serve to make students unable to keep up with students who wre taught biology properly.
-
jonathon say: Because schools don’t just have one type of belief, all kids have different religions in them and not just Christian beliefs. Also schools don’t brainwash kids abs can only teach what is proven
-
Twila say: In American schools, the Genesis creation narrative was generally taught as the origin of the universe and of life until Darwin's scientific theories became widely accepted in the late 1800s. While there was some immediate backlash, organized opposition did not get underway until the Fundamentalist–Modernist Controversy broke out following World War I; several states passed laws banning the teaching of evolution while others debated them but did not pass them. The Scopes Trial was the result of a challenge to the law in Tennessee. Scopes lost his case, and further states passed laws banning the teaching of evolution.

In 1968, the US Supreme Court ruled on Epperson v. Arkansas, another challenge to these laws, and the court ruled that allowing the teaching of creation, while disallowing the teaching of evolution, advanced a religion, and therefore violated the Establishment Clause of the constitution. Creationists then starting lobbying to have laws passed that required teachers to Teach the Controversy, but this was also struck down by the Supreme Court in 1987 in Edwards v. Aguillard. Creationists then moved to frame the issue as one of intelligent design but this too was ruled against in a District Court in Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District in 2005.

The issue has remained contentious, with various US states debating, passing, or voting down alternative approaches to creationism in science classrooms. There is no bar in US law to creationism being taught in civics, current affairs, philosophy, or comparative religions classes.

In other words - the secular society is so frightened that children will be taught CORRECTLY re: Scriptures, that the God haters whine and carry on when the subject of teaching from a Bible is even mentioned...........
-
Misty say: Evolution is a fact while creationism is a joke.
-
say: Looks like a POE question.
-
AdamTheAtheist say: Because the Constitution applies to public schools.
-
Lighting the Way to Reality say: Evolution is taught in school because it has been verified in spades and is a cornerstone of understanding the basis of biology. As evolutionary biologist and Eastern Orthodox Christian Theodosius Dobzhansky stated, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nothing_in...

And the public schools, as an arm of the government are prohibited by the First Amendment to the Constitution from promoting any religious belief, including the teaching of Christian doctrine and biblical, myth-based creationist pseudo-science.
-
Al say: One is RELIGION and the other is SCIENCE
-
capitalgentleman say: Evolution is fact - even most religious people accept this. For whatever reason, most feel that religion should be taught in churches (or at home), rather than schools, although there are all sorts of schools run by religious orders. But, even they teach evolution - because it is real.
-
Mickey say: Because evolution is science, not mythology.
-
Ben say: Because evolution is scientific fact while Jesus and creationism are complete bullshit.
-
say: As of 2007 a Federal Law has been passed that requires ALL Atheism, all evolution, Removed from all public schools, because Science has discovered that ALL the Atheists had used are fakes!~
Plus the History in the Bible is now Required to be taught in ALL public schools, since the history in the Bible has anywhere from three to over 250 proofs/records confirming each sentence! Some states are being slow at this. Yet the Federal Law is still requiring it!
-
Godless Gazoo say: Because government can't establish a religion. And the school is a government function.
-
PW1,Church of the WalkingStick say: Because as a publicly funded entity, public schools must remain neutral on the subject of religion. Science classes in them, therefor, are for teaching science, not mythology.
