Is citric acid edible

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-11-05] [Hit: ]
If you had the pure powder and ate it, the first thing that would happen is that it would dissolve on your tongue. The site it touched would probably get burned pretty badly. Otherwise, if you were able to dissolve it in enough saliva quickly enough to not burn yourself, it would be perfectly harmless in small doses.......
is citric acid edible on its own??

-
In small amounts it would be harmless. It is found in citrus fruits and some other natural foods. But, like every substance, there is a toxic level of citric acid. It isn't as toxic as arsenic, but it is more toxic than sodium chloride.

Yes. It is very sour, so you might not enjoy eating it.

If you eat way too much of it, it can form crystals in your kidneys. That's a bad thing.

-
no, it would be too concentrated. But in small traces it doesn't matter, it's in orange juice..

-
yes, but it's not necessarily pleasant.

-
