That was crucial!Report Abuse -To solve this problem you will need to:(1) Determine the atomic weight for each of your three elements (Na, Cl, O)(2) Sum the atomic weights to arrive at the molecular weight (NaClO)(3) Divide the mass of sodium hypochlorite in your sample by the the molecular weight of hypochlorite.......
Sodium hypchlorite, NaClO, is the active ingredient in chlorine bleaches. A sample of chlorine bleach contains 120.0 gm of sodium hypochlorite. How many formula units of NaClO are in the sample?

-
120 g / 74.442 g/mol = 1.612 mol

Here's the step Mrs. B missed:

1.612 mol times 6.022 x 10^23 formlua units / mol = 9.707 x 10^23 formula units
