about.[ClO-] comes from the NaClO,pH = pKa + log([ClO-] / [HClO]) = -log(3.5E-8) +log(0.150/0.175) = 7.......
The question is exactly as follows
What is the initial pH of the solution? Given: A 100ml buffer solution is 0.175M in HClO and 0.150M of NaClO

-
Ka = [H+][ClO-] / [HClO] = 3.5E-8
(http://chemistry.about.com/od/chartstabl… )

pKa = pH -log([ClO-] / [HClO])

[ClO-] comes from the NaClO, so
pH = pKa + log([ClO-] / [HClO]) = -log(3.5E-8) +log(0.150/0.175) = 7.46 -0.067 = 7.39
