not sure what the question is expecting in level of detail but here goes...

lets take the formula C(n)H(2n+2) this is a formula for a general alkene, empiracle formula

then we could have C5H12, this being a molecular formula (for a 5 carbon alkane)

but then there could be many isomers ; (pentane, 2-methylbutane, 2,2-dimethylpropane)

so CH3CH2CH2CH2CH3 is a structural formula, (implying the isomer of C5H12 being pentane)
