How to do a kg to mg conversion

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 13-08-22] [Hit: ]
I get 1.0e-6 or 1.0000e+6mg but I dont know what that means? Is there another way to do a kg to mg conversion. I have 25kg to mg for my homework and need to show work but I dont understand the conversion things?-1 kg = 1000 gand 1 g = 1000 mg so 1 kg = 1,......
How do you do this? When I google how many kg are in a mg, I get 1.0e-6 or 1.0000e+6mg but I don't know what that means? Is there another way to do a kg to mg conversion. I have 25kg to mg for my homework and need to show work but I don't understand the conversion things?

1 kg = 1000 g and 1 g = 1000 mg so 1 kg = 1,000,000 (or 1 * 10^6) mg

Simply use the unit-factor method and the appropriate conversion factors....

25kg x (1000g / 1 kg) x (1000 mg / 1 g) = 25x10^6 mg = 2.5x10^7 mg
.............1000g = 1kg .....1000 mg = 1g ....convert to scientific notation

Your teacher has, no doubt, been stressing the unit-factor method, sometimes called dimensional analysis. Is the preferred way of setting up and solving many chemistry and physics problems.

A conversion factor is a ratio of two quantities in different units which are equivalent to each other. Set up the conversion factors so that the units you don't want cancel out, leaving the units you do want.

OK 1 kg is 1000 g

and 1g is 1000 mg

so 1 kg is 1000000 mg or 1 million mg

so to change from kg to mg multiply by 1 million ( 10^6)
so 25 kg is 25 million mg=25x10^6 mg=2.5x10^7 mg

-
1 mg = 0.001 g (so 1 g = 1000 mg)
1 kg = 1000 g
1000 g/kg x 1000 mg/g= 1,000,000 = 1x10^6 mg/kg
Convert mg to kg divide by 1x10^6 (i.e. multiply by 1x10^-6)
Convert kg to mg multiply by 1x10^6 (i.e. divide by 1x10^-6)
