Proof or check:

2x - 8 + 3x = 7 - orignal equation

2(3) -8 + 3(3) = 7 - plugging x with 3

6 - 8 + 9 = 7- Multiplication

-2 + 9 = 7 - subtraction

7 = 7 - Addition

it checks and equals

I hope this helps

-
16=4w + 2w - 2
add the w's together since they are the same variable
16=6w - 2
add 2 to each side to get 6w alone
18=6w
divide each side by 6 to solve for w
3=w

2x - 8 + 3x = 7
add the x's together since they are the same variable
5x - 8 = 7
add 8 to each side to get 5x alone
5x = 15
divide each side by 5 to get x alone
x = 3

-
16=4w + 2w - 2 first combine the "w" terms
16 = 6w - 2 now move the -2 to the other side by adding 2 to both sides
16 + 2 = 6w - 2 + 2 simplify
18 = 6w almost done. now divide both sides by 6
18/6 = 6w/6 which gets you
3 = w

so w = 3

2x - 8 + 3x = 7 do this the same way. combine the "x" terms
5x - 8 = 7 move the 8 to the other side by adding 8 to both sides
5x = 8 + 8 = 7 + 8
5x = 15 now divide both sides by 5
x = 3

-
combine like terms;

16 = 6w -2 add 2 to both sides

18 = 6w solve for w by dividing by 6 from both sides

3 = w

2)

combine like terms

5x-8 = 7

add 8 to both sides

5x = 15

solve for x by dividing both sides by 5

x = 3

-
4w+2w-2 = 16
first move all numbers to right by subtracting both sides by 16.

4w + 2w -2 -16 = 16-16 4w + 2w -2 - 16=0
now you can work out like numbers
6w - 18 = 0
now add 18 to both sides to leave 6w by itself.
6w - 18 + 18 = 18
6w = 18
now divide by 6
6w/6 = 18/6
w = 3

For the other problem you do the same

2x - 8 + 3x = 7 2x + 3x - 8 = 7
2x + 3x -8 + 8 = 7 + 8
