How to subtract these exponents

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-08-22] [Hit: ]
If it was (7^3)/(7^2) then you could have subtracted the exponents. As you can see you do not get 7^1.=7^2 * (7 - 1 ) ..........
7^3-7^2 thanks guys

-
343 - 49 = 294

Edit: how will it work in an equation? (7^3-7^2)
Well, you can solve the parenthesis either by substituting the values directly i.e.
343 - 49 = 294 or by factoring like TC has shown (below) : 7^2(7 - 1) = 49 * 6 = 294, your answer would be the same regardless.

-
just find out what 7^3 is then findout what 7^2 is.

7^3=343

7^2=49

7^3-7^2=343-49

answer is 294.

You do not subtract the exponent because that is false. If it was (7^3)/(7^2) then you could have subtracted the exponents. As you can see you do not get 7^1.

-
quite simple
either do it like

7^3-7^2
=7*7*7 - 7*7
=343-49
=294

or like this

7^3-7^2

=7^2 * (7 - 1 ) ............... taking common of 7^2 from both terms
=7^2 * (6)
=49*6
=249

do the way you like

-
write it out.

7^3 minus 7^2

7x7x7 minus 7x7

441-49

392

392

-
x^3 - x^2
x^2(x - 1)

7^3 - 7^2

7^2(7 - 1)
49(6)
294
