17. 26 - (4x - 11) = -5(x + 7)
18. 4(9y - 5) = 10(3y + 17) - 40
19. 2(x - 13) =x -31
20. 5(x - 11) = 3x - 43
21. 7(x + 1) =2x + 57
22. 5(x - 2) = -30
23.1/7 (x +21)= -6
24. 2(x - 8) = -16 - 2

I'll explain a few to give you a start:
17)
26 - (4x - 11) = -5(x + 7)
distribute -1 on the left and -5 on the right:
26 - 4x + 11 = -5x - 35
combine terms on the left:
37 - 4x = -5x - 35
add 5x to both sides:
37 + x = -35
subtract 37 from both sides:
x = -72

18)
4(9y - 5) = 10(3y + 17) - 40
distribute on both sides:
36y - 20 = 30y + 170 - 40
combine terms on the right:
36y - 20 = 30y + 130
subtract 30y from both sides:
6y - 20 = 130
add 20 to both sides:
6y = 150
divide both sides by 6:
y = 150/6 = 25

19)
2(x - 13) = x - 31
distribute on the left:
2x - 26 = x - 31
subtract x from both sides:
x - 26 = -31
add 26 to both sides:
x = -5

20)
5(x - 11) = 3x - 43
distribute on the left:
5x - 55 = 3x - 43
subtract 3x from both sides:
2x - 55 = -43
add 55 to both sides:
2x = 12
divide both sides by 2:
x = 12/2 = 6
