Point S is between R and T. Use the given information to write equation in terms of X. Solve the equation then find RS and ST.

RS = 2X + 10
ST = X - 4
RT = 21

Well... If S is in between R and T, the RS+ ST will equal RT. So... (2X+10) + (X-4) = 21. Then, you combine like terms in the first part because you're just adding all of it. You'll end up with 3X+6=21. You pretty much just solve for X after that by subtracting 6 from 21 and dividing by 3 to get an answer of 5.

In other words,
RS+ST=RT
(2X+10) + (X-4) = 21
3X+6=21
3X= 15
X=5

After that, just plug 5 in for X in RS.. so, 2(5)+10... which equals 20. Therefore, RS=20.
And plug in 5 for the X in ST... (5)-4... which equals 1. Therefore, ST=1.
