How do you answer this question:
when 2x-4 is substituted for y in the equation 11x-5y=3 what is the value of x.
I really need to know how to do this for an exam next week please help thanks.

-
11x-5y=3; y=2x-4
11x-5(2x-4)=3
11x-10x+20=3
x=-17

-
It means y = 2x-4

Your second equation then becomes 11x - 5*(2x-4) = 3

Simplify and solve for x.
