.? He also said that many of us would technically have above 100% which is why Im confused.By the way, the average of class was 9/20 and highest grade was 16/20.Clarification would be appreciated thank you.......
I had quick question regarding how I would calculate my grade. So technically, the test was out of 20, but since many of the students in my class, including myself did poorly, my professor decided to curve it. So he send us an email saying this:

"The grades of the first midterm test will be scaled by multiplying a
factor 1.4."

Does he mean we multiply our score by 1.4, if so I'm confused because I get a 12.6. would I divide the 12.6 by 20...? He also said that many of us would technically have above 100% which is why I'm confused.

By the way, the average of class was 9/20 and highest grade was 16/20.

Clarification would be appreciated thank you.

You are right, just multiply by 1.4.

If you got 9/20 you will have a 12.6/20 after scaling. (63%)

The person with the highest grade will get a 22.4/20 or 112%.

Honestly, using the multiple scaling method is a bit dumb since people who did better get their mark boosted more than the people who failed and actually need their mark increased. But.. I guess just be happy that he bumped you up.

honestly i have no idea what he means, normally teachers will bump up the highest score to 100 and scale the rest...so if the highest was 16 they would give each student 4 points and the person with 16 would get 100, id email your teach and ask them cuz i have no clue

Everyone gets to multiply their actual score by 1.4. Previously 20 was the highest possible score, but if you had a score of 15 or higher, you now are over 20.

-
How many did u miss? Wouldnt i go like this 9/20 = 0.45 x 1.4 = 0.63 which is still an F.

-
Yeah, your right..
