Now go 130 - 52 = 78...ANSWER

If not going to pay 2/5 of its value you ARE going to pay 3/5

£130 x2/5 ie 130/1 x 2/5 = 260/5 = 52. So the £130 is reduced by £52. £130-£52 = £78.

The sale price is £78.

It's a 2 stage process; you have to work out the amount of the reduction - the 2/5, and then subtract it from the original price.

-
The item is reduced by 2/5.
So, you can either work out the 2/5 and subtract it from the original price, or you can work out 3/5 which is the new price.

130/5 = 26x3 = 78

-
130 / 5 = 26
26 x 3 = 78
The item is reduced by 2/5, which indicates that it has 3/5 of the original value.

-
130 x 2/5 (.4) = 52

130 - 52 = 78

-
you have found 2/5 of the 130 but you need to take it away from 130. so, 130-52=78
