We have different cases for this
Case 1.
If repetition is allowed and if you consider 000, 001,002... as 3-digit numbers.
Since we have 10 digits to choose from we have
10 x 10 x 10 = 1000.

if 000, 001,002,003... are not accepted as 3-digit numbers.
we have:
9 x 10 x10 = 900 -------> we have only 9 options for the hundreds place because 0 is not included.

Case 2
If repetition is not allowed ( the digit must be used once) and numbers like 012, 013,014... are accepted as 3-digit numbers:
10 x 9 x 8 =720

If repetition is not allowed ( the digit must be used once) and numbers like 012, 013,014... are NOT accepted as 3-digit numbers:

9 x 9 x 8 =648

Hi,

If each digit can be any of the 10 different digits, then the 3 digit number could be any of 10 x 10 x 10 = 1,000 different combinations. <==ANSWERS

I hope that helps!! :-)
Merry Christmas!
