Need some help with this simple algebra question!

This is the last question on my homework and I'm stuck (go figure)

could someone please take some time and illustrate the steps needed to simplify? the end result should be -14q-1 but I can't seem to get the steps down.

1/2(-6q)+q-4(3q+1/4)

-3q + q - 4(3q+1/4)

-2q - 4(3q + 1/4)

-2q - 12q - 1

-14q - 1
