sorry). Find the wdth of the original triangle.-theres two more problems like the one above; but I just dont get how to set up the equation.2. Jim and Albert work together at a bank and can put a certain set of data into the computr in 3 hours and 44 minutes. It takes Jim8 hours to do this work alone.......
I got a worksheet on word problems and there's some my teacher never taught us, and another I learned but I don't get:

1. A rectangle is 6 cm longer than it is wide. If the length is increased by 4 cm and the width is increased by 3 cm the area is increased by 156 cm-squared (idon't know the symbol for powers, sorry). Find the wdth of the original triangle.

-there's two more problems like the one above; but I just don't get how to set up the equation.

2. Jim and Albert work together at a bank and can put a certain set of data into the computr in 3 hours and 44 minutes. It takes Jim8 hours to do this work alone. How long does it take Albert to do this job alone?

-It's a work problem. I know how to do this, I justdon't get how to convert "3 hours and 44 minutes" into a fraction. :/

1 Let the rectangle be x cm wide then length is x+6 and the area is x (x+6) = x^2 +6x

after the increase the width is x + 3 and the length is x +6 + 4 = x +10 so the are is (x+3)(x +10)

= x^2 +13 x +30

The difference between the two areas is x^2 +13 x +30 -(x^2 +6x) = 7x +30 but this is 156 so 7x = 126

so x = 18 - this is the answer. You can check this by using this as the width and doing all the maths with proper numbers.

2 Why convert to fractions? just use 8 hrs is 480 minutes and 3 hrs 44 mins is 224 mins

How did the rectangle turn into a triangle? I failed to understand your first question since it is expressed so... amateurish but I'm sure you will understand it, sooner or later.
When it comes to question #2 you just divide 44 on 60 and put the decimals behind the 3, which in this case become 3,73. If that is what you meant by converting it into a "fraction".

You should pay better attention to your teacher, it might reward you some day. Good luck with the rest of your nefarious homework.

2 would be 60x2 plus 44 over 60 x 8 then find the simplified fraction 1 is hard to explain
Say w equals 1 and l equals 7 then w equals 11 and l equals 4 oh it won't work. You need to find factors of 156 and then take away the original measurements for the numbers you chose. I don't know if that makes since I might be wrong sorry I'm really tired but I want to help..... Let me think I. Will get back to you xxx hope I helped
