-
An alcohol is a molecule with a -OH group bound to a carbon atom.

-
Alcohol is a colorless, limpid, volatile, flammable, water-miscible liquid, C 2 H 5 OH, having an ether like odor and pungent, burning taste, the intoxicating principle of fermented liquors, produced by yeast fermentation of certain carbohydrates, as grains, molasses, starch, or sugar, or obtained synthetically by hydration of ethylene or as a by-product of certain hydrocarbon syntheses: used chiefly as a solvent in the extraction of specific substances, in beverages, medicines, organic synthesis, lotions, tonics, colognes, rubbing compounds, as an automobile radiator antifreeze, and as a rocket fuel.

-
as a point there is no difference between the "science" alcohol and the stuff you drink which is called ethanol(CH3CH2OH) there are many different types of alcohol but yes primarily there is a OH group attaches to a carbon structure ( but not always somethimes other functional groups take precedence)

-
Another scientific name for it is ALKANOL.

It is a molecule which has a hydroxyl group (-OH) hanging from the molecule.

Eg:
Methanol = CH3OH
Ethanol = CH3CH2OH

-
Alcohol is any compound which has hydroxyl group in it attached to carbonyl group... General is R-OH ...

-
A hydrocarbon compound with -OH Group. Just like

Methanol - CH3-OH
Ethanol - CH3-CH2-OH
Propanol - CH3-CH2-CH2-OH
Butanol - CH3-CH2-CH2-CH2-OH
